Continuing on our Christmas picture book countdown, it is time for some vintage. And who better than Charlie Brown for sentimental, nostalgic, tongue-in-cheek, festive reading? This is one of the small gift books from the 60s and it is hysterical, charming, thought-provoking, smile-inducing, and chock full of Peanuts characters. Add in one color, black ink on bright red and green paper, and I am sold! Here is Christmas is Together-Time by Charles M. Schulz, 1964.

We are a bit Charlie Brown obsessed around here. Even my one year old identifies the Charlie Brown Christmas music within a few notes. We dance to “Linus and Lucy,” have Peanuts figurines for the girls’ play, and decorated our entire building in It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown for Halloween. So I have been on a hunt to collect these awesome 60s gift books from Charles M. Schulz. I added this one to our collection just a month ago and we are loving it.

Every page contains a one sentence statement beginning with “Christmas is…” and includes things like decorations coming out before Thanksgiving, hard candy sticking together, trying to figure out the flying reindeer, etc…. They range from humorous to tender and most are probably more intended for adults, but enjoyed by children as well.

I love how true everything is that Charles Schulz includes. And although a lot of it is probably more humorous to an older audience, most of the things wouldn’t be thought of or said aloud except by children. Perhaps this is the genius of Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang.
