25 Days – Book 15: Me And My Fear

I wrote about Francesca Sanna’s stunning work a couple of years ago when The Journey came out. I still hold that book to be an absolute must for everyone, championing a spirit of empathy and compassion for immigrants of all kinds. This new book from Sanna tops my list this year as well. A book about anxiety and fear. A book about challenges in daily life. A book about being new, being different, and just plain being afraid. Uncover the beauty of honesty, friendship, and bravery with Me and My Fear by Francesca Sanna, 2018.

Today’s book is a wonder to behold. Originally published in Portugal in 2012, this is one of the most beautiful non-fiction books that published in the U.S. this year. A stunning treasury of big and small facts all related to the ocean. Be wowed by Ocean: A Visual Miscellany by Ricardo Henriques and André Letria, 2018.

25 Days – Book 11: Sylvia Long’s Big Book for Small Children

Today’s book is a big book. It’s called that actually. It is thick, full of childhood rhymes, and poems, and stories, and recipes, and everyday things. It is the perfect storybook for little children. A lovely collection of nursery rhymes, even if you already have too many on your shelves. (Is there such a thing as too many books of any kind?) I was so pleasantly delighted by this storybook, and it is a wonderful gift for any small child in your life. Take a peek at Sylvia Long’s Big Book for Small Children, 2018.

25 Days – Book 9: Stop That Yawn!

This is one of the most fun bedtime books I’ve ever read. A story about a girl who is tired of bedtime and tired of sleeping, so she steals away with her Granny to a city that doesn’t sleep… until that fateful moment when Granny releases a yawn. You’re going to love today’s book! Here is Stop That Yawn! by Caron Levis, illustrated by LeUyen Pham, 2018.

Join Mabel and Sam at Home: One Brave Journey in Three Adventures by Linda Urban, illustrated by Hadley Hooper, 2018.

25 Days – Book 7: Can I Touch Your Hair?

Today’s book is one of the most powerful picture books of the year for me. A book of poems, written from the perspective of two classmates – a white girl and a black boy.  This book is required reading in my opinion. It will make you uncomfortable, inspire you, make you laugh, and stay with you. Take a look at Can I Touch Your Hair? Poems of Race, Mistakes, and Friendship by Irene Latham & Charles Waters, illustrated by Sean Qualls & Selina Alko, 2018.
